What a day — with Washington written all over it! The morning started with heavy rain – which put our entire delegation in the Washington spirit. We had a great opening of the Washington pavilion with loud cheers as we cut the ribbon. Following the opening this morning (just before midnight Washington state time!) I spent nearly 8 hours straight talking with nearly 50 aerospace executives, ensuring they knew the advantages of doing business, and growing their business in Washington state. It was a good opportunity to speak about our 650 aerospace supply companies – and tell companies world-wide about our highly trained workforce.
Those meetings included positive discussions with Boeing CEO Jim McNerney and Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Jim Albaugh. Both said Washington state would be the first considered for any upcoming changes to the 737 – and both were appreciative of the difficult reforms achieved during the past legislative session. In fact, at a press conference aboard the new 747-8 – Mr. Albaugh noted that at the beginning of the session, he never thought we’d be able to do what we did with workers compensation, unemployment insurance and higher education. I’ve included some of his remarks below. More pictures to come soon!
