From Gov. Gregoire:
What a day! After nearly missing my connecting flight to Madrid, and losing my luggage for several hours — I finally made it to my first business meeting in Spain to kick off my European trade mission. Had a great discussion with executives from Dragados, who will be building the deep bore tunnel to replace the Alaskan Way Viaduct. Had several key questions I wanted answered — including assurances that the contractor would finish the project on time and on budget. And those questions were answered confidently — they will. I also toured a tunnel Dragados recently completed 5 months ahead of schedule! After today – I have no doubt in this company, and look forward to working with them as we improve our safety, our congestion and our waterfront.
Today I also met with executives at Enerfin, a green energy company that already has a presence in Goldendale and looking to expand in Washington state. We had a great discussion, and along with Commerce Director Rogers Weed, we were able to answer many of their questions and concerns. After today, I’m confident Washington state will have a long, and growing relationship with Enerfin that will hopefully mean new jobs for Washingtonians.
Another busy day tomorrow! Meeting with yet another green energy company before departing to Paris for the Paris Air Show and our opportunity to sell Washington state as the premier location for aerospace! Here’s hoping my luggage arrives…
Hope to have pictures up soon!
