I look forward to departing on Friday evening for my first trade mission with the Governor! The departure will signify the closing chapter of eight months of preparation that my team in the Department of Commerce has led. The Paris Air Show, held every other year, is the pinnacle of aerospace trade shows. Given the importance of the aerospace industry to Washington state this trade show means a great deal to the hundreds of aerospace companies here. Commerce has scheduled a total of 21 meetings to be attended by the Governor and/or Commerce representatives over the two days of the Paris Air Show. And there will be numbers of other business to business meetings held by Washington business attending the air show.
The 80 mission delegates going to Europe represent sectors critical to our economic growth: aerospace, automotive technology, life sciences, clean tech, business services, and education. Commerce has been pleased with the strong engagement by the business community to join this important mission to seek economic opportunities for our state.
After three full days of aerospace and life science meetings in Paris, many members of the delegation will carry onto Germany for more business meetings. In Germany we will promote the strengths of our automotive and life sciences sectors and continue to strengthen the trading relationships that exist between Washington and Germany. I look forward to sharing success stories down the road!
